The LA SEO CATHEDRAL is high on a sea wall above the marina. This huge Gothic cathedral boasts of an ornate wrought iron canopy above its altar and the largest rose window in the world. It is also one of the world’s largest Catholic cathedrals.
The ALMUDAINA PALACE features art work, Flemish tapestries from the 16th and 17th centuries, Spanish tapestries from the 17th and 18th centuries, and more. The palace’s shady gardens have gushing water fountains and famous sculpture pieces. This was originally built as a Moorish citadel with a solid outer wall and five battle towers. Later reconstruction added four more towers, a portico, and other improvements. A statue of an angel flies over one of those newer four towers and can be seen clearly from a distance. This became a residence palace for Moorish Kings.
BELIVER CASTLE was a medieval military structure built in the 14th century. The Gothic style Basilica de Sant Francesc is from the 13th century. Visit the Arab Baths, the Palau March Museum with its contemporary sculpture, and the Palm Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
The CAVES OF DRACH are said to be Mallorca’s most famous tourist attraction. You take a ride on one of the world’s largest underground lakes and view exquisite stalagmite and stalactite formations and a daily sound and light show with classical music played every hour while on the boat. There are three chambers inside the caves.
If shopping is a favorite pastime, there is a large market on Saturdays. The Plaza Tortugas, with its narrow streets often open only to pedestrian traffic, has unique small shops and relaxing sidewalk cafes.
