Luxury is great, but if you’re on holiday, and you’re going to be in your hotel very little, sometimes it can be better to opt for cheaper accommodation that offers simply somewhere to stay that is inexpensive and adequate rather than to spend a lot more on staying somewhere that’s decorated with antiques and has lots of facilities that you’re never going to use.

We’ve put together here an idea of some of the places you could look at staying which are at the cheaper end of the scale. They all offer enough to ensure you’re comfortable, and are excellent value for money.

Hostal Terramar
Teramar is a hostel which offers cheap accommodation in the heart of Palma. There is a range of accommodation available from a shared dormitory costing less than £20 per night, to a double room with en suite bathroom at a little over £50 per night.

Terramar is situated in the vibrant El Terreno district which is famous for its night clubs, bars and restaurants. It’s not the quietest of locations, and is aimed at the young and young at heart. It has a guest kitchen and laundry service, and if you’re looking for somewhere cheap as a base for clubbing then this really is a great option.

Hostal Apuntdadores
This is a top choice for any budget minded traveller, it is within easy walking distance of the historic areas and shopping districts, as well as being surrounded by chic restaurants and bars situated as it is in the old town of Palma. The roof terrace here where you can eat breakfast offers stunning views over the harbour and out to the mountains.

Excellent friendly accommodation is provided here, for people who are looking for budget prices. It is not a luxury hotel and so does not offer a high level of extras, however you can opt for twin room with shared bathroom, or twin or double rooms with en suite.

Hotel Colon
Set right in the very centre of Palma near the Plaza de Espana bus and train station, this hotel is ideally situated for people who wish to connect to other locations on the island of Majorca. With plenty of shopping, bars, and restaurants close by, the hotel is family run and they are happy to help with arranging car rental or booking excursions around the island.

The hotel has a reception and lounge with satellite TV available for guest use, and all rooms have private bathrooms and the option of air conditioning. The hotel doesn’t offer meals on site, but there are many places locally where these can be eaten.
